A Social Story For Western Special Needs Dentistry
Rory and his mum arrive at Western Special Needs Dentistry, at 37 Challis Street in Newport.
Rory waits in the foyer for his appointment with Dr Helen who is a special needs dentist.
There are lots of toys and interesting things in the waiting room at Western Special Needs Dentistry.
Dr Helen takes Rory and his mum through to the clinic. While Rory waits for Dr Helen and her assistant to start the appointment, he plays with a sensory toy. His mum sits in a chair in the surgery with him.
Rory takes a seat in the dental chair. Dr Helen’s Dental Assistant gives Rory a pair of sunglasses to wear to shade his eyes from the light. Rory talks to Dr Helen about his teeth.
Dr Helen examines Rory’s teeth. She uses a special mirror to help her see, and sometimes a toothbrush as well. Rory holds Dr Helen’s tooth mirror so he can see inside his mouth too.
Whilst Rory has his dental appointment, he watches YouTube videos on the screen above the dental chair.
Dr Helen’s Dental Assistant uses suction while Dr Helen treats Rory’s teeth, which doesn’t hurt and makes a whooshing sound in Rory’s mouth.
